Charles Darwin took 24 years to publish his book “on the origin of species” because he wanted to check, double check, challenge, disprove and finally prove his theory of natural selection. He landed on Chatham – the most easterly island of the Galapagos archipeligo in 1835 and finally published in 1859 (and only then because fellow scientist, Alfred Russel Wallace had written an essay on the same idea!).
